1) Buy used 535i with manual trans and M sport package
2) Stage II Dinan software upgrade; 378hp and 416lb-ft of torque
3) Hoon on Sunday, commute on Monday

Can I get it in a wagon?

4) Refuse to settle
5) Buy 540i

Replace the first 5 with a 3 and you are reading my mind. Touring if I can find it, and I say 'it' because there is probably only one out there.

5 series manuals are hard to come by but yes a win if you were to find one with M Sport.

But I wants the 5 series for road trips and fancy business meetings.

I think if you want a e60 then it comes in the 545i variety. But the e39 then that does come in 540i. Both are very good, in fact I recommend the 545i or the 550i just because BMW V8 and they're pretty reliable because of the NA engine.

Or I could grab one of these awesome manuals:
545i with M body and Sport Package

There are two with V8s, sport package and manual trans very close to me on CL...

It's the last one that you could.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
That's ok - at least I didn't just buy a 330Ci in March for the same price as this 545i with less miles and manual trans . Dammit.

Wow, that's pretty crazy too. I never think to check c-list around here.

Ah but now the real question - for that money you could have an E46 M3 or the glorious E39 M5. Which would you spend your money on?

DC/Annapolis: Lots of rich people that like buying new cars and sell their old cars.

I'd spend my money on a $4000 S80 and $11,000 in Vegas.

I'm in Southern MD, lots of jacked up trucks on our c-list! haha
I usually car shop (and it happens a lot) towards NOVA/DC or Annapolis.

Why not get the awesome 535d. Torque man. TORQUE!
You would have to remove the limiter though. It's such a shame that this car is limited to 155. (And it is, I tested that.) You can feel that it just wants to go on.

Diesels are for hippies and truckers.

I tend to go for Annapolis more often - the cars usually don't see the DC roads and lead a less stressful life.

You're halfway there already

It's something about the clattery sound of a diesel engine that doesn't get my blood pumping quite like a petrol engine.

Not really.

If you're in the U.S., then yes really.

Well, that sucks. Looking at used car websites here it seems the wagon 5-series generated about 40% of 5-series sales in the last few years.

KBB on these cars is so low!

That's what happens when you have an expensive German sedan approaching its 100k miles service.
